Tonight I will be sharing an excellent presentation from Common Sense Media on Digital Life: Our Kid's Connected Culture.
As parents today, the world of social media and it's impact on our children, is difficult to grasp. We must educate them to be good digital citizens, but starting at home is where I always like to begin.
Parents-it is okay to set limits, talk and say no to your child regarding Social Media use. It is possible to use it in a safe way that will protect their social footprint for years to come.
According to the Digital Life PPT, from Common Sense Media, below are some tips>
TOPICS to CONSIDER:
* Norms of Communication
* Predators
* Information going viral
* Think before you post
* Cyberbullying
* Sexting
RAISING DIGITAL CITIZENS:
* Embrace their world (do not fear the unknown)
* Encourage Balanced Use
* Monitor media
* Set Limits
* Nothing is private
* Establish Privacy Settings
* Keep Passwords Private
* Identities last
* Avoid Risky Behavior
* Discuss Accountability
* Is a person who they say they are?
* Marketing to youth strategies
