KEYNOTE-Mr. Gary Abud Jr-MI Teacher of the Year 2014

Picture
My name is Gary Abud, Jr., and I am the 2013-14 Michigan Teacher of the Year. I have been teaching high school science since 2007, and I have taught in four high schools between two states. While I am originally from southeast Michigan, I began my teaching career in Arizona. After teaching science in the Sonoran desert area, I returned to Michigan from Arizona with my wife, who is also a high school teacher, to be closer to family. I now teach at my own alma mater, Grosse Pointe North High School. I am a connected educator who is passionate about teaching and learning in Michigan. I am very active in professional organizations, constantly improving my own craft, and advocating for the teaching profession. I believe in student-centered instruction, project-based learning, grading for mastery, and integrating mobile devices into the classroom.
